On our slow travels through Malaysia, we stayed in Melaka for 2-weeks. Yup, you heard it right…no one stays in Melaka for 2-weeks but we wanted to. Which meant we definitely needed a comfortable place to call our temporary home. We found a very lovely 4-star hotel called Baba House Melaka for only USD$75/night (booking.com) in the charming heart of old town UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel itself seems like a museum, having preserved the 18th-century structure featuring authentic Peranakan-style design, intricate woodwork, and traditional interior decor—typical of a Peranakan home during the Dutch era. It is located on Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock (formerly "Millionaire's Row") that conserves the architectural heritage. We have enjoyed a daily routine of getting our walk in along the river before it gets too hot in the day, using the gym, getting some sun at the rooftop soaking pools, and being able to choose from a million excellent restaurants and cafes doorsteps away in every direction. A different movie plays in the outside courtyard every night, too! How fun. It’s a popular hotel. Especially on the weekends it gets completely booked up, so don’t wait too long to book! Since we were in Melaka for 2 weeks, we had several DHL packages and online orders from Lazada sent to us. The front desk helped us with all that. They also printed our tickets and paperwork for the next series of bus/ferry reservations. Why you should stay here: (1) This is hands down, THE BEST LOCATION to stay in Melaka. (2) Professional and friendly staff, attentive, efficient (3) Surrounded by beautiful architecture and decor everywhere (4) Nice amenities (5) Great value A couple of minor things to note: (1) Our room (222) was in the core of the hotel so there was barely a window. It helped for sleeping deeply but difficult to tell the time of day without any natural light. If this is a problem for you, make sure to ask and upgrade to a different room location. (2) housekeeping service could be a little more thorough. We only asked for service every 3-4 days. When they did, they didn’t sweep or vacuum the floor…ever, or clean the toilet, or change the sheets (just made the bed). We start noticing things when we’re there for 2 weeks! When we wanted our sheets changed, we literally stripped the bed ourselves so it was obvious we needed the bedding changed. Problem solved, no big deal. We miss Baba House so much. Can’t wait to go back.

I am a melakan n every month I have visitor staying in BB House. Excellent in all ways. The only complaint I have is the Car Park supervisor. He always show unwelcome gesture n language when asking if the car passenger are registering in hotel. Keep saying he is just doing his job. Pls note even when the car park is empty on a Monday 12pm my is friend asked to show booking. I had earlier checked in n got a room #325 then he asked to show the key. I said the room not ready so no key uet. Still he insist so i was there to welcome my friend n open my phone to show booking.com This security man has done this to me many times. What a pain.

There's a restaurant in the baba house call Mari Chiak. The food is affordable and portion is big. Service is good but the food serving is a bit slow. Food wise is ok.

The hotel is exquisite, with a design that blends traditional aesthetics with modern style! The decor follows a traditional layout, but some design elements are a bit inconsiderate: the bathroom door is too heavy and could easily get caught, the pillows are too thick and large, and the air conditioning settings are too complicated! The breakfast is refined and more suited to Chinese tastes, offering both Chinese and Western options!
