Kebaya Dining Room offers a sumptuous journey through Peranakan and Straits cuisine in the restored charm of Seven Terraces in George Town. The dining room’s high ceilings, crystal chandeliers and scarlet velvet drapes create a luxe, old-world atmosphere that pairs beautifully with a menu focused on elevated Nyonya classics. Dishes are thoughtfully modernized yet deeply rooted in tradition — delicate, spiced curries, perfectly balanced starters and generous sharing portions that make the set meals ideal for groups or a leisurely dinner. Guests often remark on the polished service and the careful pacing of the meal, which allows you to savour each course like a story unfolding. The restaurant doubles as a cultural encounter: the heritage setting, curated antiques and refined presentation make dining here feel like an immersive evening in Penang’s culinary history. For those seeking Peranakan cuisine presented with finesse and a sense of ceremony, Kebaya Dining Room delivers an indulgent, memorable experience.

in the last weekSensational. As a big eater, fine dining always leaves me wanting me more. Kebaya is the only place where I've not been able to finish my food, and not because of taste. The food is incredible, the staff are super friendly and attentive. They even provided a complimentary banana fritter and ice cream for my birthday. Would come back here 100%

in the last weekOut of the plethora of Nonya restaurants within the whole island of Penang, I find this one of the best and forward in its innovation, taste and creativity. The menu is a strange one. Each diner can choose from 2 options, a 2 course or 3 course menu. A 2 course menu would give u a meat and veg option per diner so if there are 2 diners, you would have 4 different dishes on your table excluding starters. It may seem confusing at first but it’s really easy to understand. We had a party of 8 so we had the opportunity to try out everything on the menu. My verdict is the food is truly amazing. Almost everything was unique and tasted super savoury. Here’s my list of must tries: 1. The otak otak. Don’t be fooled by the title of this dish. This is a puff pastry wrapping sea bass with a creamy coconut otak sauce. Pretty extraordinary. 2. The buah keluak beef. Tender beef ribs I think, grilled to perfection in a buah keluak sauce. 3. The fish Assam. Wow. The gravy was spot on. Slices of pomfret swim in it. 4. The prawn in gulai gravy. Lemak as hell. 5. The kale with mushrooms. Superb mix and non spicy greens to accompany the savoury dishes 6. The grilled eggplant. Not too mushy, had the right amount of textures and the Sambal was perfect. 7. Sweet potato leaves. Oooooo the gravy was as good as the gulai. 8. Ayam goreng. The batter was oh so good. Service was super attentive and brisk. Warm and friendly. Definitely worth a return. Forget about the rest of the Nonya joints. This is the one.

2 weeks agoAunty Jenny and the whole team at Kebaya went above and beyond - from telling us stories of Nyonya days gone by to the live guzhen music to the kind allowance for us to take photos in the courtyard, we had a unique and bespoke experience. Would recommend to ANY first-time visitors to Penang as a memorable and special experience (with, by the way - INCREDIBLE food).

3 weeks agoThe restaurant added a twist to traditional Peranakan food. Eg the otah starter has otah meat encapsulated in baked pastries. Pleasant surprise and blend. Other dishes had large servings but not incredible considering the higher prices.
