Walking into the restaurant at 850pm. The staff said closing at 9:15pm. I decided not to dine in, as the experience should not be rushed. To follow up the next day, I stepped in at 5.15pm. Their staff came with good menu Introduction & recommendation! I love the Pot of gold. Not to be missed. Congee/Porridge brought to another higher level. 8hrs of old hen stewing. Pairing it with nutmeg cocktail ; as nutmeg help to avoid stomach bloatedness. The menu offers good variety & options for single traveller/diner! (Mini pot) Friendly & Attentive customer service. Lively in house dining atmosphere.

I ordered a Shaoxing vermicelli and shrimp casserole. The food was good, but the customer service was terrible. The restaurant opens at 12:00 PM. Because I needed to catch a flight, I entered around 12:00 PM. After the staff finished explaining the menu to the table of 10 people next door, I asked him to take my order first. He specifically confirmed that I expected to leave around 1:00 PM. However, my food didn't arrive until 48 minutes later (I specifically asked the staff to keep an eye on it around 40 minutes). I couldn't help but complain to the staff. I was leaving immediately, and the food was only served 48 minutes late, slower than the table next door, even though I had ordered earlier. The staff just apologized without explaining much, but said they reported it to the owner. The owner waited until I finished eating and paid the bill before asking if my meal was good. I couldn't help but repeat the above situation to her again, and she actually pointed to the order slip and told me my order was only placed at 12:29 PM?! The table next door placed their order at 12:12 PM. Naturally, I couldn't accept this. After paying the bill and coming out of the restroom, I saw the owner watching CCTV. I waited for him to reveal the truth, but she actually turned around and asked me if there was anything else I could help her with?! Me: Didn't I order at 12:07, earlier than the table next door? Her second version appeared, saying the next table had a pre-order, and explaining the menu was just a standard operating procedure, so serving first was reasonable. She also said my food arrived in 40 minutes. These contradictory explanations! My order wasn't printed until 12:29, meaning they knew I was leaving at 1 PM but still made me order this dish, yet it didn't arrive until 12:48. Is a 12-minute dining experience fair?! Everything is unreasonable, and the owner just keeps making excuses to say they did nothing wrong. Even though I complained during the meal, I didn't get any explanation from the restaurant... I'm exhausted.

These three decisions turned out to be excellent: 1. to eat at Sambal; 2. to stop by the restaurant in person at lunchtime to reserve a table for the evening; 3. to repeat steps 1 and 2 the following day. We felt very comfortable at Sambal, enjoyed delicious food, and were very well looked after by the attentive staff. Because we ate at the restaurant two evenings in a row, we tried many different dishes. The variety of flavors, garnishes, and, of course, presentation was a real treat. Both the kitchen and the service staff are highly skilled. If we travel to Penang again, we will definitely reserve a table in advance. Better safe than sorry.

We loved our experience at Sambal. We went there on a busy night and ended up having an amazing time. The welcoming was warm and the whole service was great. Our main waitress was very explanatory and attentive and guided us through the menu in the most satisfactory way. The atmosphere was nice and although it did get quite noisy, it wasn't annoying in any way. We enjoyed a variety of amazing dishes and we had awesome cocktails. I asked for my cocktail to be extra spicy and they did deliver! We absolutely loved the signature dish Udang entangled claypot, a unique and wholesome flavour as well as the amazing pork ribs. Good VfM. Overall a great experience, so it's highly recommended!
