I was initially quite put off by the need to reserve but after hearing and seeing so many good reviews, I placed my reservation and understood why this place is highly rated. The table setting was all prepared for the different groups of diners and wait time for food was relatively short as we had already pre-ordered the food. Loved the cendol, eggplant and kway pie tee :) Cinchalok egg was lovely too!

It's funny that our friend from KL was the one who brought us, as Malaccans, to this place for Nyonya fusion cuisine! Safe to say, we're glad they did. Every dish we ordered was near to perfection. The flavours were well-balanced, beautifully prepared, and you could tell that every plate was made with care. The lamb shank was incredibly tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. We also loved their hot and cold cendol—both were refreshing in their own way and made the perfect ending to the meal. The service was just as impressive. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, making the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. If you're looking for one of the best Nyonya restaurants in Melaka with excellent food, outstanding service, and a comfortable atmosphere, Bulldog Cafe is definitely worth a visit. It's a place we'd happily recommend to both locals and tourists, and we'll definitely be coming back again.

Reservation only and pre ordering is required, which initially made us wonder if it would be inconvenient. In reality, it allowed the kitchen to focus on quality, and we appreciated that they were still happy to let us order additional dishes during the meal. A good example of their commitment to quality was when they informed us that the beef dish we had pre ordered would not be available because the quality of the meat delivered that day did not meet their standards. Rather than serving something they were not satisfied with, they recommended alternatives and we ended up ordering the Sambal Sotong Petai, which turned out to be one of our favourite dishes of the evening. This was easily one of the best meals we had in Melaka. What impressed us most was the restraint and balance in the cooking. Many places overload dishes with heavy sauces and strong seasonings, but here every dish tasted clean, fresh, and thoughtfully executed while still preserving the essence of Nyonya flavours. Our favourites were the Sambal Sotong Petai, Cincalok Omelette, Pie Tee, Okra Belacan and Salted Fish Kang Kong. Each dish was beautifully presented and allowed the ingredients to shine. The sambal was particularly memorable, fresh, fragrant and flavourful without being overwhelmingly spicy or oily. The Pie Tee was crisp and delicate, while the Cincalok Omelette had a wonderful balance of savoury, herbaceous and umami flavours. Even the vegetable dishes were outstanding, showing great attention to detail. Dessert was a pleasant surprise. The Ice Kachang was probably one of the best we have had. Finely shaved powdery ice topped simply with evaporated milk, gula melaka, rose syrup and red beans. No unnecessary ingredients, just pure comfort in a bowl. The restaurant has a relaxed modern atmosphere, and the tapas style portions allowed us to enjoy a wider variety of dishes. After a long day, this meal was the highlight of our trip. We left feeling satisfied rather than overly full and were already talking about what we would order on our next visit. Highly recommended. We will definitely return.
