Heritage Dim Sum at Low Yong Moh Restaurant

Low Yong Moh Restaurant is a charming, family-run dim sum spot tucked into the UNESCO Heritage stretch of Melaka. Steeped in history and now in its third generation of stewardship, this restaurant offers an authentic, nostalgic experience where the food feels homemade and the atmosphere reflects the multicultural streetscape just outside — with a mosque opposite, a Hindu temple to one side and the famous Cheng Hoon Teng Temple on the other. The menu highlights what regulars come back for: fragrant Lotus Leaf Rice that arrives soft and aromatic from its leaf wrapping, generously filled Braised Pork Buns (Kau Yuk Bao) with tender layers of pork belly, and plump prawn siu mai that taste like they were made in-house rather than pulled from a factory pack. Expect comforting classics served with a pot of tea or a cooling chrysanthemum drink — simple pairings that let the quality of the dim sum shine through. Service here is warm and attentive, the kind of friendly, personal hospitality you associate with a long-running family kitchen. The interior gives off traditional Cantonese tea-house vibes and many visitors make Low Yong Moh their breakfast stop whenever they’re in town. Because of its prime heritage location, prices are a touch higher than neighborhood outlets, but most diners consider that a fair trade for the setting, the authenticity and the generous portions. Practical note: seating can feel slightly warm when dining outdoors, so plan for an early-morning visit or a less-sunny day if you prefer cooler comfort. Whether you’re after a relaxed breakfast ritual or a taste of Melaka’s culinary past, Low Yong Moh delivers honest flavors, heartfelt service and a true slice of local history — a must-visit for anyone exploring the heritage district and craving traditional Cantonese dim sum.

This was a great find at 6am in the morning in Malacca. Food was good, service fast and price was reasonable. Good experience.

A recently high rated Dim Sum place and recommended for Dim Sum lovers. I reached the place right before 7am, already have few tables of customers there. I guessed the business is run by an old lady and his middle aged son. Promptly I was attended by them, however I couldn’t get either a glass of Chinese tea nor sugarless milk tea. End up I have to order a glass of green tea instead. The worker brought various types of steamed or fried dim sum which is tempting and a wonderful surprise. Dim sum is presentable and tasted great and flavourful. Anyway, the price is at higher side considering it with smaller portion. Well I might revisit to try for some other dim sum.
