Heritage Dim Sum at Low Yong Moh Restaurant

Low Yong Moh Restaurant is a charming, family-run dim sum spot tucked into the UNESCO Heritage stretch of Melaka. Steeped in history and now in its third generation of stewardship, this restaurant offers an authentic, nostalgic experience where the food feels homemade and the atmosphere reflects the multicultural streetscape just outside — with a mosque opposite, a Hindu temple to one side and the famous Cheng Hoon Teng Temple on the other. The menu highlights what regulars come back for: fragrant Lotus Leaf Rice that arrives soft and aromatic from its leaf wrapping, generously filled Braised Pork Buns (Kau Yuk Bao) with tender layers of pork belly, and plump prawn siu mai that taste like they were made in-house rather than pulled from a factory pack. Expect comforting classics served with a pot of tea or a cooling chrysanthemum drink — simple pairings that let the quality of the dim sum shine through. Service here is warm and attentive, the kind of friendly, personal hospitality you associate with a long-running family kitchen. The interior gives off traditional Cantonese tea-house vibes and many visitors make Low Yong Moh their breakfast stop whenever they’re in town. Because of its prime heritage location, prices are a touch higher than neighborhood outlets, but most diners consider that a fair trade for the setting, the authenticity and the generous portions. Practical note: seating can feel slightly warm when dining outdoors, so plan for an early-morning visit or a less-sunny day if you prefer cooler comfort. Whether you’re after a relaxed breakfast ritual or a taste of Melaka’s culinary past, Low Yong Moh delivers honest flavors, heartfelt service and a true slice of local history — a must-visit for anyone exploring the heritage district and craving traditional Cantonese dim sum.

The dim sum here is good, esspecially the chicken feet in herbal sauce and pork ribs in fermented black beans sauce. The lady boss is very friendly too. Oh... they do have frozen dim sum for visitors who wish to bring some home... just asked the lady boss.

Only limited tea is available. So do not expect them to offer milk coffee/tea and other beverages. Dim sum is so so, not sure why this place is so popular.

Our family of four visited Low Yong Moh Restaurant during the Vesak Day long weekend while exploring Melaka. After searching online for the “must-eat” places in the city, we decided to give this restaurant a try, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. When we arrived, there was already a long queue outside the restaurant, which was understandable given that it was a Sunday, Vesak Day, and a long weekend for both Singapore and Malaysia. Despite the large crowd, the restaurant crew managed the situation efficiently, and we were pleasantly surprised to be seated after only about 20 minutes of waiting. We were impressed by the warm hospitality and professionalism of the staff throughout our visit. The food was served promptly, and every dish was delicious. The dim sum experience was particularly memorable: traditional, authentic, which is something increasingly difficult to find these days. Each item was freshly prepared and packed with flavour, reflecting the restaurant’s longstanding heritage and commitment to quality. The efficient service, welcoming atmosphere, and outstanding food made for an excellent dining experience. We are glad we made the visit and can fully understand why this restaurant is so highly regarded. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Melaka and looking to experience authentic traditional dim sum.

Most of the waiters here are rude. The old man that is making tea is trying to convincing us to accept the wrong order that they had made ( which is not paying attention to what we had ordered) the chef making the food keep shouting and it created a very noisy environment. Not a good experience.
