Restaurant Sardaarji – 4x Michelin Bib Gourmand is a standout destination in George Town for anyone craving true North Indian cooking delivered with warmth and precision. The kitchen balances rich spices without overpowering the palate — dishes arrive layered, aromatic and perfectly tempered so you taste each individual note. Diners consistently mention the biryani and briyani rice as highlights: fragrant, well-seasoned and cooked to perfection, making it one of the must-order plates on the menu.
Start your meal with playful, palate-awakening snacks — the pani puri is praised for its sweet-and-tangy pop that prepares you for the richer mains. The garlic cheese naan, fragrantly baked and slightly charred, pairs beautifully with classics like butter chicken, which guests have called irresistible. Vegetable options are every bit as compelling; the veggie pakora is crisp and flavorful, often compared favorably to versions found back in India, and serves as proof of the kitchen’s consistent technique.
Expect attentive, friendly service that enhances the meal without intruding. Several patrons note the thoughtful pacing and genuine hospitality that make a casual dinner feel special. The menu also includes well-executed tandoori and biryani variations — from tandoori chicken biryani with balanced medium spice to an aromatic chicken dum biryani — offering choices for those who prefer subtle heat or deeper, slow-cooked aromas.
Affordability is part of the appeal: Michelin recognition and excellent craft don’t come with a prohibitive price tag here, so it’s easy to enjoy a refined experience without stretching the budget. Trusted by over 1,100 diners, this restaurant has become a reliable recommendation for locals and visitors who want authentic, hearty Indian fare in Penang.
Whether you’re after hearty biryani, crisp pakoras, or baked naan to scoop up every last bit of curry, Restaurant Sardaarji brings consistent flavors and genuine hospitality to every plate — a must-visit for lovers of traditional North Indian cuisine in Penang.

in the last weekSmall restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and a heritage vibe. We ordered chicken tikka, baingan bharta, paneer butter masala, rice, and a garlic naan and a cheese and garlic naan. Baingan bharta first time ever seeing on a menu but it was the star of the night, closely followed by my wife's cheese and garlic naan. I would definitely go back.
