Tek Sen Restaurant is a Penang institution in George Town where classic Chinese dishes are served with warmth and consistency, making it a repeat destination for locals and visitors alike. The restaurant’s signature Char Siew Bak is frequently recommended, and plates of tofu, bitter gourd with egg, kang kong and other vegetable dishes are praised for careful preparation and comforting flavours. Tek Sen stands out not just for its food but for the thoughtful, accommodating service—staff will note special dietary requests and often make adjustments, which creates trust for diners with particular needs. Expect a lively queue at peak times; the team takes orders while you wait so service feels brisk once seated, and communal tables add to the bustling, friendly atmosphere. Portions are generous enough to share, and dishes like sting ray curry and chicken with plum sauce are commonly singled out as highlights. While prices are modestly higher than some hawker options, the overall experience—reliable cooking, attentive staff and a menu full of balanced, flavorful dishes—makes the visit worthwhile. No wonder it’s trusted by over 3,900 diners who keep coming back for that familiar, well-executed taste of Penang.

in the last weekIt's best to make a reservation in advance for priority seating, as the queues on-site are incredibly long.

in the last weekVery famous restaurant in Penang. The bookings are always full. We were walk-in customers and need to wait for an hour ( but understandable). The reserved customers were always treated first and walk-in could only wait. Some customers complained about the queue management but they seemed ignored. Some gave up and went back home. We waited in line and when they called my group they just spoke in Chinese and we didn’t understand. Thanks Malaysian customer next to us, she told is. When we got the table, the waiters were very nice and helpful. The taste of foods were ok. There’s no parking.

in the last weekDecided to have dinner here after seeing the queue waiting for a table when walking past. Glad we did as the food at this old school restaurant is superb. The very efficient waitress gave us menus and took our order while we were queuing. We didn’t have too long a wait for a table (@15 mins) Food arrived quickly once we were seated. Our fish (red snapper) was very fresh and steamed to perfection. It was presented to us, with the price for our approval, prior to cooking, which we appreciated. Heartily recommend this restaurant - a real find.

in the last weekLong queue wait time, at least 1 hr if you did not reserve table before hand. Reservation was make 1 week ago. Tze char style with signature pork belly hone made sauce meat, must order, with spicy or nonspicy options. Meat was soft and flavourful with their home made sauce, butter squid is crispy and hot, goes well with rice. The wait was worth it. Recommanded to at least try once when you in George Town.
