Restaurant au Jardin is a must-visit dining destination in the heart of George Town, celebrated for its inventive fusion of local Malaysian ingredients and refined European technique. Diners consistently praise the chef’s imaginative tasting format — from the fenugreek-spiced bread with layered butters to intricate plates like the multi-textured chilli crab and the slow-cooked abalone — each course is deliberately composed to showcase depth, balance and a sense of place. The degustation menu moves confidently between playful and profound, with desserts described as a “waltz between sweet and savoury,” and savoury highlights such as the perfectly executed duck that many guests call unforgettable. Service is warm and highly attentive: guests note the personable presence of the chef and a front-of-house team that anticipates needs and enhances the evening without distraction. If you enjoy thoughtful pairings, the non-alcoholic and curated drink accompaniments are designed to echo each dish’s flavour profile, elevating the entire progression from amuse-bouche to finale. The dining room itself feels intimate and refined, ideal for special occasions or for anyone seeking a polished tasting experience that still retains a friendly, local spirit. Whether you’re exploring Penang’s culinary scene or marking an important night out, Restaurant au Jardin delivers imaginative cuisine rooted in local produce and finished with meticulous technique.

in the last weekExcellent, innovative food, superb service in a pleasant room. Richly deserves its Michelin* Expensive but well worth it Just a pity that more wines by the glass are not available, other than as course pairs (I can recommend Coravin!) EDIT (after 2026 return) Still excellent, incredible — sometimes crazy — taste combinations that surprise and delight. Starting to be very expensive but well worth it for the experience! So glad we returned — such lovely friendly staff — even Chef takes time with each table — everyone appears to enjoy what they are doing. Bravo! 👏

3 weeks agoA truly wonderful discovery. The cuisine is exceptionally creative from start to finish. The flavors and influences are diverse. The food and service are of such a high standard that we believe a second Michelin star is just around the corner.

3 weeks agoWe had the degustation menu, and everything was very good except for the petit fours, which I felt didn’t quite represent traditional desserts and were a bit confusing to the palate. My favourites so far were the sardine amuse-bouche and the aged duck as the main course. The flavour profiles of the savoury dishes were particularly interesting.

3 weeks agoWe had a wonderful dinner here. As someone who doesn’t often have fine-dining experiences, I was truly impressed from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by well-trained staff and guided to our reserved table. Every dish was exquisite—beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. From our counter seating, we had the pleasure of watching the chef delicately craft each dish with great attention to detail. The waiters thoughtfully explained how each dish was made and the best way to enjoy it, which really elevated the experience. The presentation of every course was spot-on, and the flavors were outstanding. Kudos to the chef and the entire team for such an exceptional dining experience. We were also treated to a few complimentary dishes, all of which were equally amazing. Overall, it was a truly memorable evening. We didn’t even realize how quickly time passed—we ended up spending nearly three hours there because the experience was just that enjoyable.
