Great experience at Dewakan. The welcome to the restaurant is a whole process of discovery anticipating on the meal to come. The food is bold, creative and full of character. The pairing is original and subtle. Just one bit of advise:do not arrive too early as there is no waiting area and the building concierge definitely not part of the experience.

I came to Dewakan with the intention of learning about Southeast Asian ingredients (especially fermented foods), and the explanations of the ingredients were truly rewarding 👍. I'll be going to Singapore next to continue verifying what I've learned. Two or three fermented dishes left a strong impression, but I felt a bit hesitant with the others (not daring to be myself). Later, I asked the staff, and they said that market acceptance is low, and customers who don't understand the food will leave negative reviews, which is very damaging to the restaurant (this is true). So, I later asked them to open the pickling jars and try some challenging dishes with my eyes 👃, which smelled quite interesting Since we don't drink alcohol, the accompanying juices were a bit bland. I hope they'll use more Malaysian herbs or fermented liquids to create a series of herbal drinks; that would be much more interesting . Overall, it was a warm and welcoming dining experience. Thank you!

Ingredients from the Bornean jungle, a beautiful KL skyline sunset, and a naturalist course all wrapped into one amazing evening. The Chef is undeniably brilliant, and so passionate and patient as he describes the care that goes into every bite.
