in the last week🇨🇳Clan Jetties of George Town, Penang George Town is a very interesting city, a mix of cultures and religions. Among the many activities to do, we recommend a stroll along the jetties of the Chinese clans who came to Malaysia in the 19th century, fleeing the economic crisis that China had suffered as a result of the Opium War. The Chinese emigrants who arrived in Malaysia were poor and lacked the money to buy a house, so they began building their homes on stilts near the port, where they worked as laborers or fishermen. Chinese families have always been divided into clans, and the clans that resided in the jetties of Penang were: Seh Lim Keo (Lim Jetty) Seh Chew Keo (Chew Jetty) Seh Tan Keo (Tan Jetty) Seh Lee Keo (Lee Jetty) Chap Seh Keo (Mixed Clan Jetty) Seh Yeoh Keo (Yeoh Jetty) Today in the jetties Only a few descendants of the original clans live there. The most visited jetty is Chew Jetty, and it's also the busiest, with souvenir stalls and street food. Over the years, the jetties have received threats of demolition from various governments, and it's to preserve their cultural heritage that UNESCO declared this central area of George Town a WORLD HERITAGE SITE. 🇨🇳Did you know this story?
