We did the guided tour today. Our tour guide Sally was knowledgeable and extremely informative. Provided great information re the history of the mansion. There was really not a lot to see of the mansion itself tbh. The interest was in the history of the place and other end Sally was fabulous

Never book the townhouses, poor pest control, we lived with mosquitoes every night, cockroaches are found in the loft. Maybe that is what you called the overrated heritage experience, get an old house, refurbish it make it into an overpriced 1star Airbnb. Still sick of it after leaving.

A stunning heritage building and one of the most iconic landmarks in Penang. The deep blue exterior immediately stands out, but what makes it special is its history it was built in the late 19th century by Cheong Fatt Tze, a wealthy Chinese merchant known as the (Rockefeller of the East) The mansion blends Chinese architecture with Western influences, which you can see in its design and details. It’s very well preserved and gives a strong sense of Penang’s multicultural past. Even from the outside, it’s impressive Definitely worth visiting in George Town.

Not much relics compared to other Peranakan Mansion I ever visited, but the aesthetic is nice.
