in the last weekThe food might not be to everyone's taste. The flavors are average, leaning towards mild and a bit bland. The food wasn't very hot. Maybe it's because we don't really like this type of food. My favorite was the appetizer platter; everything on it was delicious. My second favorite dish was the eggplant with some kind of curry sauce; it was okay. The stingray sour curry was also okay; the fish was very good, but the curry lacked flavor and was bland. The herbal rice wasn't very flavorful; it was just okay. The stir-fried squid with chili was also just okay. The restaurant atmosphere was great, befitting its 1-star rating. The service was excellent, befitting its 1-star rating. But maybe we just didn't appreciate the taste. 🤣🤣 The price is considered high compared to other restaurants. However, compared to other 1-star restaurants, it's not expensive at all. But my friends and I expected more. Disappointed

in the last week@auntiegaiklean 🌟An Old School Eatery in Penang is a 1-star Michelin restaurant for four consecutive years (2023-2026) recognised for its authentic Peranakan (Nyonya) cuisine. 🌟Started off with tantalising crispy tart, Pie Tee, filled with veggies and chicken meat. Move on to Chicken Lor Bak, a deep fried savoury Beancurd roll and Acar Awak aka crunchy-spicy pickles mild in flavours. 🌟 The highlight of the spread went to Nasi Ulam, perfect balance of texture and aroma, fluffy, and vibrant in herbs, I can’t get enough. 🌟All the dishes made up of fresh ingredients, surprisingly, the flavours were subtle, but textures cooked to perfection. Here’s what we shared, Stir fried Jiu Hu Char, Braised Black Angus Beef Rendang, Tangy spicy Assam Prawns, tamarind Fish Curry Tumis, Chicken Curry Kapitan, Stir-fried bitter Petai Sambal Octopus. 🌟Dessert was aromatic fresh coconut with black glutinous rice. My first time trying fresh Nutmeg Soda, that was interesting! Insta @yummmmmmmmonica

a week agoThere’s better nonya food in the area, please do not get deterred from trying nonya food again. Unfortunately, we ordered 6 dishes and all were under-whelming.
