We visited Mossy Forest in early March with our kids, aged 5 and 11. We only made it halfway through the elevated boardwalk before turning back, as the kids were tired. Our tour guide brought us in a 4x4, as the roads to the forest are quite rugged and narrow. The views inside were amazing, and the weather was perfect. The forest, blanketed in moss and ferns, looked magical, and we even saw a few pitcher plants.

Yesterday, without explanation of our guide, we weren’t guided to the area advertised in the tour but from what I had seen in the first few meters into the park, it looked nice and mossy. We paid 10 RM extra besides our tour costs and are Foreigners. But it was loud as all tours talked loudly, kids whined and cried, and guides did a lot of explaining. I didn’t like it because it ruined the atmosphere if you cannot listen to the jungle. Pro tip if you are good on foot and do not mind a bit of an adventure, you are better off here, if you also want to listen to the jungle and not just see it: Today we did Trail 10/12 starting in Tanah Rata and ended at the power maintenance station close to Cameron Highland Resort on our own, and saw a great mossy forest and enjoyed it completely for ourselves including listening to siamang monkey voices from the distance. I place a video of the sounds and remark it as trail 12/10. You will see the difference.

Board walk is closed till July 2024 for renovations, so we had a chance to take the nature path, which can be extremely muddy and slippery especially when it rained the day before. So probably wise to not wear white shoes. The ecosystem is quite cool. Guide, Heeme, from Eco Cameron Tours, was insightful and knowledgeable about the history, and the flora and fauna of the highlands, making the tour very engaging and interesting.

Apparently, the forest is only accessible if you hire one of those 4 wheel drives. We hiked up and were spoken to rudely by some of these drivers/ local guide forbidding us to even walk to the ridge because we came up on our own. The steps leading to Mossy Forest is under maintainence, so it's closed till July 2024. Rude locals and closed attraction warrants the 2 star rating. It was pleasant having the clouds descend on us as we were chilling under a tree before our long descent.
